I have dived on island Sipadan close to the Borneo. This island is very popular between the turtles because they are nesting their eggs on the island beaches. There is also another attraction on this island. Not so deep, approximately on the depth of 20m there is an entrance to the cave where many of turtles have died. There are more than 20 turtle skeletons in this cave as well as one dolphin skeleton. One legend says that when turtles feel their last hour is coming the swim in the cave to die here, but another legend says that the turtles simply become lost in many of the tunnels in the cave. Cousteau, who was on the island in the first ninetieths and was also enthusiastic with the marine life, has also confirmed the second legend. The island is namely very interesting for diving. It is the only island so far from the Borneo. Actually it lies on the huge coral block growing from the depth more than 1000m. The marine life at home reefs is very attractive and full of small creatures as well as huge swarms of barracudas, jack fishes and turtles, of course. The island is a protected national park. Unfortunately I was witness of dynamite detonation under water. Some of the fishermen unfortunately still use this primitive method of fishing. The consequences are catastrophic – dead home reefs without marine life. If you enjoy diving with turtles than Sipadan is an appropriate place for you. The cave is official closed but after negotiations and special agreement the experienced divers are allowed to dive in the cave with the dive guide.
