My cousin Andrej made me enthusiastic for diving in Kenya. So it was clear that my next diving destination would be Kenya. Additionally there is a great chance to enjoy safari. I dived about 15 km north of Mombassa with a diving center, which is owned by African Safari Club (ASC). Diving conditions in August are not optimal because the visibility as a consequence of strong current and some rainstorms is not the best. Particularly the current was really so strong and in such a circumstances it is really hard to make pictures. Just the opposite is diving for all the other divers much easier. The coral life is displayed them like a movie. Despite these reasons I enjoyed in diving very much. I have never seen so big fishes like parrotfishes, batman fishes, wrasses and many others and I have dived on many different places all over the world. All the fish species in Kenya were for at least 30% bigger than the species I've seen till diving in Kenya. I was very satisfied with the support of staff in the diving center (they were all aboriginal) and very disappointed with the owners of the diving center, African Safari Club. When I paid the bill at the end of my holidays for the first time in my diving career the 11th dive was more expensive the the 10th. I will not explain here all the details but African Safari Club staff was really very arrogant, not only in the diving center. Diving points are placed along the long reef some hundreds meters far from the coast. Diving from the cost is not possible and also night diving is not preferred. The coral reef is not so various there are only a few species of soft corals, the majority represent hard corals. The diving depth is usually between 15 and 25 meters. Macro world is also not so diverse but again, so many different fishes at the same place I have never seen. I have also met the whale shark. Unfortunately this meeting was not under the water surface. I was on the boat when we were on the way back to the diving center. This huge fish was at least so long as our 9m long boat. I also have to let you know that I had enormous problems with my underwater photo system, so in the gallery there are not so much underwater photos. Thanks God, I brought also my 3D underwater photo equipment with me, so I had something to do under water. Additionally there are some photos in the gallery taken at the safaris in Tsavo East and in the Amboselli National Park below the Kilimanjaro mountain. And there is also one experience which I will never forget - Pole, Pole, no hurry in Africa, said all the aborigines when they speak with tourists. |
